It seems to be a season of busy right now. We have a dinner party with friends this weekend, neighborhood block party next weekend, brunch at bible study next week, so on, and so on. You get the gist of it, and I’m sure you’re dealing with the craziness too.
I’ve come to save the day! Well, at least give you an easy appetizer you can bring with you to your next potluck. I love when our favorite fruits are in season, especially blackberries. Plus, who doesn’t love cheese? It’s the best of both worlds with this appetizer.
Simple. Quick. Elegant. Perfect.
Watermelon Feta Blackberry Bites
There’s really no “recipe” to this, because it takes 5 simple steps.
- Cut your watermelon into squares.
- Cut a block of feta cheese into smaller squares.
- Stack your feta cheese on top of your watermelon.
- Add a delicious and sweet blackberry on top.
- Use a cute pick to hold it all together & serve!
Why You Need to Stock Up On Blackberries
Blackberries have one of the highest antioxidant levels of all fruits. Antioxidants are well-known for lowering the risk of a number of cancers. Plus, blackberries are rich in bioflavonoids and Vitamin C, are very low in sodium, and low-cal with only 62 calories to a cup.
Get Them Fresh During the Season & Frozen During the Off-Season
More than 90% of the berries grown in Oregon are flash frozen within hours of being picked at the peak of ripeness, locking in maximum nutrition, taste and color. Great news! The peak of ripeness is NOW and through the coming months.
That means, even though fresh berries will very soon not be easily available, you can still enjoy your favorite berries from the freezer section.
