I have probably watched Frozen (the movie) a hundred times now. My girls are obsessed with it. Three words forever engraved into our brains is, “Let it go.”
After having my fourth kid, I’ve learned to just “let it go”.
What do I mean by that? It’s simple.
When I had my first child, I needed ALL THE BABY THINGS. As she got older, I gave her 100% of my attention. I never let the binky go near her mouth after falling on the ground. As soon as there was a little spit up on her shirt, she would be changed. Diapers were changed on the hour. Baths were given every night. And very few people were allowed to babysit. Trips outside the house were planned ahead, including a full diaper bag with all the essentials: diapers, change of clothes, cut veggies & fruit, and toys.
Fast forward three kids, and I have learned to LET IT (the small things) GO.
Mommy is not for your constant entertainment. You’ll find a binky everywhere in this house, on the floor. Whatever! Clothes are stained, wet, and you can tell what we had for breakfast. Diapers droop off butts. Baths are given weekly at best, daily is pushing it. And the week after we moved, I passed my youngest to strangers, to care for her while I got some “mommy time” in. Leaving the house now means making sure everyone has clothes on, and grabbing a diaper and some quick snacks running out the door.
Some days are crazier than others, but we have a whole lot more fun. I don’t stress myself with worries about trivial manners like a spotless house and matching clothes.
Sometimes easy is just as great. As my girls get older, I’m continuing this “Let It Go” parenting.
So moms, just “Let it go!” Oh, and watch the video below, because it’s hilarious and I just love it!
