School starts next week for us, and while it was fun to be more care-free during the summer, I really need for all of us to get back “on track” with work/school/home life.
Since we moved last month, we haven’t really done a chore list of any, but I thought now was the perfect time to start something simple for my girls. Something that would be easy enough to task even on school days.
They are only seven, four, and two – so I really needed something that includes age appropriate tasks for each of them, that wouldn’t take very long to do either.
I want them to learn accountability, but at the same time, I feel like things should be done often and when asked as well. So our focus is going to be on the “reward” part.
First, I made and printed off a list of age-appropriate chores for each of them like so.
In the morning, they have the option between two chores to do. I like doing it this way because I’m still in control of the chores being done BUT they still feel like they get a choice – a win-win. Then, in the evening they get another.
Each chore is simple & quick, and take 10-minutes or less to complete. They are not things like get ready, brush teeth, or do homework. Those aren’t chores, they’re things that must be done daily. Instead, the’re things like picking up toys and books, helping with laundry, and yes, even picking up doggy poop.
After a chore has been done, they can use the Sharpie Clearview Highlighter to mark off the chore done. If they complete all their chores then they can color in one of their (super cute) suns on their printable rewards chart I made.
Once all 10 suns are colored in, they get to choose a reward coupon.
Right now, with them being younger, I like having rewards that don’t involve money. Things they are still interested in. As they get older, I’m sure that will change to money, or things like internet access.
Is this something you’re interested in trying at home?
Here is what you need to get started:
