Lose Weight, Eat Healthy, and Feel Better #FastMetabolismDiet

You guys know I’ve been sharing my weight loss struggles with you for the past year and a half. While I haven’t tried every single diet out there like some women have, I’ve been trying hard to cut out those main killers like sugar and grains. I even went Paleo last year and while it was great at the beginning I ended up falling off the wagon.

So when I was asked to review Haylie Pomroy’s new weight loss book The Fast Metabolism Diet I jumped at the chance.

The Fast Metabolism book

What is The Fast Metabolism Diet?

Even thought it’s called a “diet” I really believe this is a great first step into a healthier lifestyle. You will cut out all the bad stuff your body does not need, and feed it tons of delicious and healthy foods.

When you think diet, you also think eating less, right? Well that’s not true here. She has you eat three full meals and two snacks a day, and the more you have to lose the more you eat.

Haylie Pomroy has spent more than 17 years helping people lose weight, improve fertility, overcome health challenges and reach optimal health while still enjoying real food and not going hungry!

No needing to count calories, points, or fat grams.

Instead, you simply rotate what you’re eating throughout each week according to a simple plan that is carefully designed to induce precise physiological changes that will set your metabolism on fire.

PHASE ONE (two days): Lots of carbs and fruits
PHASE TWO (two days): Lots of proteins and veggies
PHASE THREE (three days): All of the above, plus healthy fats and oils

Repeat for four weeks!

Each Phase focuses on different whole, healthy foods to calm your adrenal glands, reduce stress on your liver, and feed your thyroid so it can produce the hormones T3 and T4, the superstars of a fast metabolism.

You’ll reduce stress, too—and as a result, put the damper on the belly-fat hormone, cortisol. By keeping your metabolism guessing, you’ll get it working faster.

What kind of food will you be eating?

The Fast Metabolism Diet book has four weeks of meal plans and over 50 recipes including vegetarian, gluten-free, and all organic.

Here’s an idea of the meals and snacks you will be eating for the next 28 days.

Does this diet work?

Yes, it really does.

Since I received the book right before we left on vacation, I didn’t get to start it until mid April. I haven’t yet finished my full 28 days but I’m almost three weeks into The Fast Metabolism Diet and I’ve already lost 12 lbs.

Fast weight loss might not happen for everyone. I think it really depends on what you were eating before you started the diet. My initial ten pounds was in the first week, just cutting out sugar, white starches, and eating less junk all together.

It works, yes. But it’s not the easiest either.

There are a TON of diet restrictions. No wheat, corn, dairy, refined sugar, caffeine, soy, alcohol, dried fruit or fruit juices, artificial sweeteners or anything “fat-free”.

Coming from someone who loves food, all kinds of food, it will look overwhelming at first. It does get easier.

Like she mentions in her book, you have to eat five times a day, nothing less. This can be hard for some, but if you plan out your meals and make sure you keep phase appropriate snacks on hand, you will be fine.

Another must do is drinking LOTS of water. You have to drink half your body weight in ounces each day. This is a MUST no matter what diet or lifestyle you lead. Like I’ve said before, water is key to weight loss.

You may notice an increase in your grocery bill. I don’t think it’s more expensive to eat healthy, but it does cost more to buy organic and natural products over non-organic and processed meals. In the long run, it’s worth every penny.

In the Facebook group I’ve been apart of since starting the diet, we’ve found that there are some discrepancies in the book and between the book and The Fast Metabolism Diet App. I’m hoping this is something they will fix with time and reviews.

What happens after the 28 days?

There are a few different options once the 28 days is over. You can continue on and do another 28 days, for as long as you need to to lose more weight. You can choose to do The Fast Metabolism Diet every other mouth, or every 2 (or 3) months.  She writes in her book that one of her clients likes to do one week a month.

No matter what you do after the diet this book is a great tool in your new lifestyle, and a great reference for later on.

For me, learning moderation was a big thing in doing the diet. It’s something I struggle with especially emotionally eating, but trust me when I say after you eat well for a week then eat even one little thing (like a cupcake) your body will feel it, and most likely won’t like you for eating it.

I suggest you crack open The Fast Metabolism Diet book, read it, and start your own journey. Read it again and again each week, ask questions on her Facebook page, and check out the new community forum for advice and tips, and share your own weight loss adventure.

It sounds similar to clean eating where you don’t eat any of the processed foods and stick with fresh fruits, veggies, lean meats, and grains and so on.

I love desserts so no matter what kind of plan I’m doing their always my downfall.

This sounds very interesting and those dishes look delicious. I’m intrigued by the eating 5 times a day and drinking that amount of water. I could see how it could work and I’m glad to hear it’s worked so well for you so far. My husband has been looking for a diet/lifestyle change and I”ll have to recommend this to him.

  8. That all looks quite tasty, I have to say. I couldn’t really argue with that method of weight loss although I am admittedly a calorie counter, through and through.

I am on day 6 of week 2 (or day 2 of phase 3 /week 2) ~ it is working wonders ~ never hungry, down 13+ pounds AND…. I have not cheated and my taste buds have changed…I know taste sweet in things I never thought were sweet before…It is marvelous. My system is feeling so regulated and it is a healthier way to live for sure … more than a diet. When you see how natural what you eat now is compared to “out of boxes” eating…it will amaze you~~ I cannot encourage anyone out there enough to go start it…it’s worth it. I have another 60+ lbs to loose…and will repeat after the first 4 week cycle is up for sure..and then think I might opt for Mon-Fri & weekends off from then on… you are welcome to email me if you have any inquiries about how I do it….hennmail@verizon.net ~ Neve:)

It’s very much like detox diet. You have to avoid a lot of the same foods and it includes foods that help to boost liver function. This also helps to get rid of toxic chemicals that interfere with the weight control system.

It’s important to follow the exercise plan too.

a diet without eating less. So nice to read about this. It’s cool that we don’t have to hunger ourselves just to lose weight, we just have to repeat eating healthy stuff to work this out.
